[runtime] test chat UX across various terminal emulators

I've gotten some feedback that that the chat subcommand isn't working as expected in different terminal emulators. I'll compile a list of different environments and see if we can find a way to do automated tests..

It might just be a matter of cleaning up the ANSI chars I'm using...
