Bug description

Groups are missing after reinstall. Even if the group name was changed or new messages was written.

Steps to reproduce

In short:

  • Android Smartphone (with LineageOS) of a friend was stolen
  • He used the Signal App and the Desktop App
  • We have blocked the old SIM-Cart
  • We ordered a new SIM-Cart with the same phone number
  • Signal registration PIN was not used in the past

We activate the new SIM-Cart in a new smartphone and install Signal.

Signal registration works and now we also set a registration PIN.

Non-group chats worked: I can send him messages and he can answer them. I verified the new safety number and i saw the information messages about this in all shared groups. But the groups doesn't appears on his phone.

I have tried a few things:

  • We re-linked Signal Desktop
  • Signal Desktop works in every way:
    • Receive group messages
    • write group messages
    • Create new groups
  • On the phone groups doesn't work:
    • Old groups doesn't appear
    • He can't create any new group!
  • If the Desktop App is not running, i can see that a new group message to him will not be delivered.
  • I deinstalled Signal on the phone and reinstall it: This doesn't change anything.
  • It's the latest Version: 7.2.4

This seems similar to the problem encountered here #13526

I created a debug log now: https://debuglogs.org/android/7.4.2/acdca96fba861ec6f9f75ebbe2d7a2fbeed39bfd2759c97460c271bacf8248dd

And It's a new behavior now: It's still the same installation.
Now, creating a group worked and a few old, exiting groups worked: They are visible after new messages.

But there are still groups that doesn't work. But i found a work-a-round: I removed the person and after re-assign it works!
