Suggestion from @caolan:

<user1> burritobot: tell: user2: want to go for a burrito?
[some time passes.. user2 joins channel]
<burritobot> /msg user2 5 minutes ago, user1 said: want to go for a burrito?

I quite like the idea of being able to reference a previous line but it could be difficult to define this when others may be chatting. Perhaps this:

<user1> burritobot: tell: user2

Possible extensions:

  • multiple calls should result in multiple messages
  • allow the specification of some amount of time after which it shouldn't be sent
  • report to the requesting user that the message was sent - backing up if they themselves are away
