This example does not render mathjax when running the Shiny app in Rstudio, replicated on several computers. When opening the app in google chrome, mathjax is correctly rendered.

It works for me in RStudio (1.2.679, Windows). Can you provide information about what platform you are running on?

Dear Winston, running Rstudio version 1.1.453, R version 3.5.0, Shiny version 1.1.0 on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1. Other computers were also on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1, but I am not sure what version of Rstudio they were running.

Do you have a firewall and use a web proxy? The way that MathJax is implemented in Shiny, it gets the JS file from a CDN instead of locally. The URL it uses is this:
https://mathjax.rstudio.com/latest/MathJax.js?config=TeX-AMS-MML_HTMLorMML

Would that explain why it is not rendered in the Rstudio popup window, but is rendered correctly when I pop it out to my browser?

Yes, if Chrome is configured to use a proxy but Rstudio is not.

Alright. I don't know how to check this; I just used factory settings for both when installing.
