Not sure whether the people active here are also responsible for the shop at https://swag.rstudio.com/, but it would be helpful if:

  • there was more transparency who is behind https://swag.rstudio.com/
  • there was a clarification that although the parcels are shipped as letters with a value of 1 US dollar, you still need to pay import taxes in EU (I had to pay 25eur or so on an order of 35 US dollar).

Hello there @BramVDBe! It is in fact us (Posit / formerly RStudio) who runs that swag store; we have not updated the branding yet but will do that soon. Specifically, I (along with my teen daughter working part-time) am one of the people who makes sure things move forward with that. What do you think could be improved on the website to more clearly indicate that it is officially run by us?

I'm sorry about the unpleasant surprise you had with import taxes! Have you seen examples of other sites with international shipping that meet your expectations of communication on import taxes? It would especially help if they were Square sites, since that is the backend we are using.

Hi @juliasilge,

great to have it confirmed that it is indeed an "official" store and the stickers look in fact slick!

I think a "contact" or "about us" section would already do the trick. Especially to reach out to you if something is wrong with the shipment/order.

As for the taxes, perhaps you can add a note somewhere (along with the international shipping costs) that additional taxes might be needed to pay. Better even would be to have a shipping option from within EU but that obviously is a bit difficult I imagine.

We'll look into how much of this is possible when we do the rebranding for the swag store. Thanks again!
