Slack channels needed to prevent listing names in the guide

  • email: actually there's email_etc_support, @yabellini do you follow it? what's the difference with the email@rladies.org email address?
  • youtube: @Athanasiamo this channel would be for people to ping the Youtube team, you at the moment, without really "pinging" you.
  • meetup: folks would post requests for help @PatriLoto Or is the new_chapters channel the best place for that? Is anything else discussed in the new_chapters channel?
  • github: for not pinging @hfrick

And actually, what's better, a Slack channel or an email account? The answer might be different depending on the thing, e.g. @yabellini could prefer email and @Athanasiamo could prefer slack.

I follow the email_etc_support channel and solve it when I can. The difference with email I think is that email gets the official request for changes in email account (new account, passwords, forward list members). I also get questions about "how to" but those come more by Slack, most of the time by DM.

I prefer email because DM and Slack messages are lost and then I don't have a track, so I can miss a request and I can't show that someone requests me a change. As this is the official account for the chapters I want to be able to show that an organizer asks me to change the password. or to change the forward list.

Also, I can track my work and have some data about the process: the common questions, the commons problems, the amount of time, and help me to improve our process and be accountable for my task.

@yabellini so what about we retire the email_etc_support channel? Then say someone else takes over and wants to change workflows, they could do that, but you have every right to prefer email communication.

And reg "most of the time by DM" I think I'll open a separate issue.

Hi, I think there were ideas around for restructuring the onboarding process and having an onboarding team do the infrastructure steps of meetup, email, twitter, github (etc?) so I think we could start with making #new_chapters the single place for all those requests.

Ok so can you archive email_etc_support @hfrick?

For meetup accounts, is there an email address btw?

And should there be a youtube Slack channel and email address @Athanasiamo? (it could also be only an email address with no Slack channel?)

This sounds like a good idea, I think an email address is enough, and then other questions are likely to pop up in the #online_meetups channel on slack. THis wasy I can have the form submissions be notified to the youtube@rladies mail rather than my own. I think that is good for anyone who might take over. THen they will also see the history of exchanges etc.

Awesome! Would you mind emailing email@rladies.org to ask for the email address?

@PatriLoto @hfrick I know there's the new chapters channel, but what would be the corresponding email address?

Currently the closest correspondence of an email address to the #new_chapters channel is info@. Maybe it's worth making a dedicated email address for the whole thing, e.g. onboarding@?
