Release date of Pydicom 3.0?

A while ago I think I saw as someone wrote that this library is gonna be updated (to 3.0) after september (or it was autumn? Can't remember). So I am just curious (no pressure), which release date is estimated now?

I'm not sure of the discussion you refer to - but we are probably ready to release 2.4 soon.

Version 3.0 is something we keep talking about, but keep putting off for "one more" 2.x version a few times already.

I think we should probably halt any new features for 2.X after 2.4 release (bug fixes only) and stick to getting 3.0 going. This is the "major changes" version, which would include some complex things still not worked out. I imagine that would take at least a number of months after the 2.4 release, maybe even up to 6 months or so, including pre-release versions to help perfect things before a final release.

Agreed. We don't have any big changes for 2.4, more minor enhancements and fixes. We can finish the ones in work, and check if there are some more worth doing before the release, but I think we can get that out pretty soon.
For 3.0, we probably need more time, given the planned non-trivial changes, but I also think it is time to start that. Hopefully @scaramallion is soon available again, as he had a lot of good ideas.

I like the sound of that better 😄. Even as I wrote 'up to 6 months' I knew it was very optimistic.

Maybe I remember wrong, maybe refered autumn (september) update was about 2.4 version. Nevermind. Thanks for response!
