Context and extra information

Game Information

Game name is Lifeline (SLUS_208.48), also known in Japan as Operator's Side (オペレーターズサイド). Voice controlled game that requires the use of a USB headset.

Issue

The game locks up at a black screen after an in-game cutscene.
All DMA modes seem to fail, and enabling several common modes and combinations has no effect.

This issue seems to have persisted for 5+ years, and was mentioned in a Reddit thread here where the author ultimately gave up and bought the disc. I have attached a save file just before the issue for easy reproduction.

To reproduce the issue (NOTE: USB mic or headset required):

  • Select "Load Game" on the main menu, and load the save provided.
  • Hold O to talk, and say "Go to the hallway", followed by "Go to Guest Room 2".
    A cutscene will automatically trigger.
  • You will be prompted to use a shutter to complete the cutscene - when prompted, press Square to operate it, and select "Close" to complete the scene.
  • The scene will end and OPL will lock up at a black screen.

@10522 I believe any PS2 headset will work OK. I'm using that one.
