What is ejabberd ?

ejabberd is an ubiquitous, massively scalable messaging server supporting XMPP open standards.

XMPP

XMPP stands for eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol. It is a protocol standardized by the [IETF](http://www.ietf.org](http://www.ietf.org) (Internet Engineering Task Force).

The protocol is composed of:

• A standard corpus, defined in official RFC specifications.

• An extremely large sets of extensions defined by the XMPP Standard Foundation. Extensions should cover most of your needs regarding messaging features and before decided to write your extension, you should get familiar with the one that have been already defined.
