I would like to be able to limit the number of nodes available for insertion

Describe the solution you'd like
Something like e.preventDefault() in query when the number of nodes in query.getNodes() is greater than or equal to some number
maybe there is already a solution?
Additional context
enabled/disabled editor state won't help, because we won't be able to remove nodes from the editor
I also haven't found a way to dynamically set a canDrop rule for my root canvas container
