Your Environment

  • Uploader Version Number: 0.7.1
  • Your Android Phone Model Name (e.g. Samsung J1 Ace): Samsung A40
  • Android Version Number (e.g. use 4.4 for 4.4.4): 10
  • Network Connection at the time the issue occurred (Wi-Fi, Mobile): Wifi/Mobile
  • (if relevant) Nightscout website version (e.g. 0.8.4 Funnel cake, master / dev branch): 13.0.1 head

Brief Explanation of Issue

Childs phone, under parental control (Family link). After disconnecting glycometer (for charging) & then connecting it back - uploader didn't connect to pump (640G)
when unlock phone & tap on uploader (bring it to front - it start connecting & uploading data to nightscout.
This issue started after upgrade to android 10, so probably some permission issue. App is enabled for background usage.

Got confirmed same issue from another person. She says, that happens, when phone time limit is over, when time limit is not over, then works.
Attached screenshot, sorry phone is set to Estonian.
but htere is visible: P 22:12:46 Contour Next Link plugged in
After that nothing happened, until i added some bonus time, unlocked & opened uploader app
then: P 22:21:51 Please wait Pump is expecting sensor communication. ....

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Android 10 phone needs to be under parental control & time limit is exceeded.
  2. Disconnect Contour Next glyckometer.
  3. After some time connect it back.
  4. Wait some time - give from famiy link bonus time & open uploader app - from logs is visible, that connected some time ago, but connecting with pump when opened it.

We don't support these type of set ups with apps that control access. The expectation for a child is a dedicated uploader device only used for that purpose. Android 10 is a lot more restrictive on what runs where and when, you may find a way of whitelisting the uploader app.

We have had same kind of observation with Nokia 5/Android 9/640G. No parental control what so ever is used. After upgrading from v0.61 to v0.71 the uploader did not connect automatically when glucometer plugged in. If uploader was already open it crashed (or went to background, disappeared) when plugging in. Connection started to work when reopened uploader. Now we are back to v0.61 which works nicely.
