Required Node version inconsistent with stated version in package.json

🐛 bug report

package.json states that Parcel supports Node >=12, but a dependency of @parcel/watch requires >=16. The bug I'm experiencing is on Node 14.20.1.

🎛 Configuration (.babelrc, package.json, cli command)

The bug occurs before any configuration comes into play. Using Node 14.20.1, as indicated in error message above.

🤔 Expected Behavior

The package should install.

😯 Current Behavior

On yarn add -D parcel, the following error occurs. Same thing happens using npm.

💁 Possible Solution

If Parcel doesn't actually support Node <16, engines should be updated. Alternately, node-api-addon v6.1.0 should work with Node 14.

If Parcel doesn't actually support Node <16, engines should be updated.

We've now updated the engines to be >=16: #9645
With the intention being: anything older than Node LTS is not guaranteed to work and Parcel can drop support without a major release
