Purifying salt displaying multiple times in a row

I was fighting against a lvl 9 pikachu with a nacli. The purifying salt ability was activated three times in a row when pikachu used a move (I had animations off). It didn't display the moved used but I'm assuming it was thunder wave.
Edit: it's doing this for many moves
