as title, please use the name of your club

What was your highlight from last year

example: a hackathon, the elections, an award that you received, a project that you worked on, the leadership of the board members etc

We can't decide on one highlight, so here are two:

  • The addition of "Code Jams" - all day collaborative events. These events take place on Saturdays, and focus on one particular topic. We learn the topic, and then we program in the topic. This format is not something we have seen in other clubs, and it has proven pretty fun.
  • Greater project engagement. Thanks to excellent project leadership, Marston-vs-West drew several collaborators. It was really rewarding to see to people get together every week and work really hard on this project.

What is/are the project(s) your Club worked on

Marston-vs-West: a web-based fighting game based on a library rivalry at our school.
Club-Website: a massive overhaul of our club's website

Please include any links as well

What was the most challenging issue that your Club had to deal with

last of participation, lack of diversity, not a lot of interest working on projects etc]

The most challenging issue was generating interest in projects, and making sure everyone feels like they have something to do. Some members were not interested in the two projects we had. Other members felt insecure about their abilities and needed help knowing where to start.

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to stop doing?

as the club's leadership or/and as the club

Both of our main projects last year were javascript-based front-end web development projects. This was mostly accidental. In the future, we hope our club can offer project with different applications in different languages.

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to start doing?

as the club's leadership or/and as the club

Our club would like to include more people from non-CS backgrounds. Our university has a great set of Digital Arts students, and we are in dire need of their talents. Getting more computer engineering, electrical engineering students would be nice as well. Even beyond the world of computer science, Open Source to many fields: biology, literary arts, etc.

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to continue doing?

as the club's leadership or/and as the club

We have a solid set of meeting formats: casual coding semiweekly, general body meetings biweekly, and code jams monthly. These meetings vary in length and focus, and allow us to appeal to multiple demographics.

Please something that you would like to share with the Open Source Student Network

A tool, a link, a meme, an article, something that you found online, a song etc

Play our game!
