Worcester State CS:Recoded

What was your highlight from last year

Organizing our school club and sending a team of students to compete in a hackathon in our first semester meeting as an unofficial special interest group on campus. The hackathon was on April 20th to the 21st at the University of New Hampshire titled The Twenty-third Annual Consortium for Computer Science in Colleges Northeastern Conference.

What is/are the project(s) your Club worked on

Since we organized our club last semester, we have only planned projects. This semester, now that we are an official club on campus, we hope to take action as a club to work on open source projects and our project ideas.

What was the most challenging issue that your Club had to deal with

Having not been an official club we lacked the resources we needed to start working on software projects. Organizing our projects and meetings was difficult because we do not have experience working with student government on campus to stay organized so we were highly dependent on the online platform Slack to set up meetings, hold elections, and have group discussions.

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to stop doing?

N/A

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to start doing?

I would like to start having more meetings on campus with specific topics of interest to give our group members a more structured environment to collaborate and work in.

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to continue doing?

At the start of our club we lacked resources to begin working on ideas our members had for the club. Now that our club is official we will be given funding and guidance from members of student government and our student affairs office. Over the summer I was glad to become a part of the OSSN to get access to the open source projects on your site and other resources like tutoring for python. I hope to utilize OSSN as a part of our weekly meetings and to continue to strengthen our clubs resources.

Please something that you would like to share with the Open Source Student Network

We have the CS@Worcester blog (http://cs.worcester.edu/blog/) which is being used in many of my classes. But anyone in the CS:Recoded club is welcome to contribute.
