Unresponsive keyboard in Darkstar on Linux

I'm trying to run Darkstar on Linux but, after capturing the mouse in the emulator, the keyboard becomes unresponsive. Pressing any key does nothing, so I can't even release the mouse by pressing Alt. This happens with ViewPoint, Interlisp-D, and XDE.

I documented my efforts and setup in a GitHub issue. Does this behavior ring any bells? Any suggestions?

In the end I went with the Dwarf Mesa emulator. Not only does it run fine with my setup but it also doesn't overload the CPU. With Dwarf the fan of my Chromebox is not constantly spinning as it does with Darkstar.

Dwarf lets me play with ViewPoint and GlobalView, which I was curious about. The only downside is it doesn't support Interlisp-D.
