How to reproduce the issue?

  • Set your language to en-*, and use a keyboard layout with a ⌫ Backspace button.
  • Create an area tagged with building=yes + shop=yes
  • Select the area that you just created
  • 💥 Press ⌫ Backspace, and note how nothing happens
  • Now right click the area, and choose "Downgrade". Note how the downgrade operation works via the menu (even though it didn't work when we pressed ⌫ Backspace)
