Description

At https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=24/24.18146/120.86583 we have a 5-way junction with a additional node there too.

Special consideration should be given to users attempting various click combinations at that point, to enable them to split the highlighted red road you see.

So, iD needs to consider all the possible things that clicking on this point might be wanted.

Currently it only assumes one arbitrary item

Whereas the user doesn't necessarily mean that arbitrary item.

So ID should do just like Vespucci does, in the case of ambiguity, a menu pops up with several choices.

If an object is not connected to, but overlaying/blocking another object, you can

  • (when not as close together) Press W, switching to lineframe mode, making objects considerably smaller/thinner
  • Going to the data menu (in the right sidebar, below the background menu) and at the bottom using the object filters to hide the object (deselect Point/Node).
  • Use Shift + hold left mouse on background imagery and drag around objects to create a 'lasso', remove unwanted objects from multiselect list at the top of the left sidebar (note it may also select the roads).
  • Workaround: (where possible) Try selecting until you have both overlapping and regular node selected, remove overlapping node from multiselect list at the top of the left sidebar.
  • Workaround: Select a nearby node on the road and use [ or ] to navigate between the nodes on this road, then shift+select the road itself and then split with X / right-click and split it.
  • Workaround: Check if the object is in the right position, move it if needed.
( Do not move survey markers. See also survey_point shouldn't be moved #9255 )

Check the help menu at the bottom of the right sidebar for other shortcuts.

Note (for anyone with similar issue), try to be careful when doing so, please.

  • selecting/dragging near multiple objects may cause them to merge by accident.
  • the road may have one or more relations, splitting may cause them to break by accident. Issues with relations should be resolved by other mappers relatively quickly in active areas, but otherwise post to the OpenStreetMap community forum, or leave a map note.

Sidenote(s) regarding data filter:

Was #1239 (which was resolved by previous maintainer through improving existing multiselect list)

OK thanks! I used the "]" workaround you mentioned and it worked.

During the process a turn restrictions dialog popped up, and I thought "if only this dialog allowed me to also select things."

So iD needs some friendly verbose disambiguation menus.
