Carto and most other maps I know don't render such incompletely tagged objects. JOSM gives a warning "sport without physical feature". I doubt that the tiles should contain such entries. If they do appear on maps, mappers might conclude that this is correct tagging.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I understand that the majority of sports have also a physical tag. In the wiki there is: "Since this is a non-physical tag it should be combined with one of these (physical) tags." From taginfo, there are 99.02% combinations sport=tennis and leisure=*. So the 0.92% (approx 4725 sport=tennis) do not have a physical tag.
