It should be noted that docker-machine is part of the docker-toolbox, which is a derivative of the GUI package for windows or mac. docker-machine is not used( or installed when installing docker-client/docker-server) for local implementations of docker on linux. docker-machine is used when you spin up VMs to run docker containers instead of running the container natively. In a linux deployment, the IP would simply be your localhost IP address.
