*Test.class test files are not being detected

This issue was observed during development of the batch metrics api and addressed via a change to the build.gradle file in #159. However, it looks like adding that change introduced other build failures (these build failures only show up on github, not on a laptop). So, that change needs to be removed to fixup the build pipeline, and then we need to fix the issue as part of a new pr.
