This is from our discussion about replay attack protection. Don't worry about this until after 1.0 is released unless we run out of beta support work to do.

The backend would prefer the timestamps be Unix timestamps with the number of seconds elapsed since January 1, 1970 UTC. If doing it that way is a PITA, let us know and we can expect something different.
