We'll be meeting again in the omi-weekly-meeting channel of the AngellXR/OMI Discord.
We regularly use the # omi-meeting-chat channel for text chat.

Who we are and why we're here:
The Open Metaverse Interoperability Group (OMI) is focused on building the metaverse, whatever that means to you, you're welcome here (T&Cs and Code of Conducts apply).

( bridging virtual worlds by designing and promoting protocols for identity, social graphs, inventory, and more. Our members include businesses and individuals working towards this common goal.)

We are concerned about practical standards, and helping grassroots members. We have a seat at MSF and are part of the W3C by charter. We intend to serve as a social connection between the different organisations, as a less formal organisation.

If you’re an observer or here for the first time, this is a general community meeting where people who work on the OMI group initiatives discuss updates and contribution opportunities for current projects and goals. This is your chance to jump in and help!

From jin: Updates on MSF delegates group

• Had last meeting of the year this week, resuming 2nd week of January
• Presentation was about Sophiaverse / AI project, history of wearables
• Aiming to have charter approved by early January
• Going to update MSF notes over break: https://hackmd.io/@XR/metaversestandards/
• Want to have AI bot trained on MSF notes / content (data is all in a github repo)
• Its been a struggle to organize field trip events, we always go back to zoom
• I hope in 2024 we can align on opportunities to collaborate on open source projects

MSF real/virtual world working group - SoloSolipsist. Working on similar problems that knev has been tackling, would be good to get connections. Working on a similar protocol than IPSME. How to determine capabilities between different virtual worlds

Whats the top two priorities for OMI? And what's the top two most urgent priorities for OMI right now?

• Physics! Getting physics stuff in glTF done. Standardised, in more engines, into Khronos - Aaron
• Progress on portals. - Roderick
• Field trips, in the virtual world museum - Keyframe, jin
• Outreach to other standards bodies, research side. Community building. Get students, get people who maybe didn't even think they are interested in "the metaverse" but have a project that is sortof relevant.
• get more involvement in open source projects, like a metric of commits on github - to see what is the engagement. So that we can see what wider interest is out there. what are people interested in in this concept of "the metaverse"
• open ecosystem ... what does this mean for the metaverse?
• design system for the metaverse, to be welcoming to non-technical people
• If we do things right, this will be used 100s of years from now. We are building open infrastructures and data transmissions and that will be used forever. It's about the data!
