Annoying flash of completion dots

I'm experiencing a brief flash of completion dots in zsh having installed heroku's completions. I imagine it's because the completion tool takes greater than some tiny threshhold (100ms?) to finish. However, I have COMPLETION_WAITING_DOTS="false" in my .zshrc, so I imagine it shouldn't be showing dots at all. Anyway, you can see a short video of what I'm seeing here, I'd welcome any ideas for how to fix it.

Can you post your zshrc file? You shouldn't see that if COMPLETION_WAITING_DOTS is not set to true.

If I remove the very last line the problem disappears.

That's a heroku problem then. You don't need COMPLETION_WAITING_DOTS=false. See this issue heroku/cli#957 (comment).
