Documentation: Mock/Fake data for system testing

There's a few times when testing our system that uses RRD that I'd like to be able to make a completely fake/mock dataset irrespective the actual time at which the data was created.

It would be nice to have a tutorial, aimed at the RRD newbie, that covers updating and/or creating datasets from the perspective of mock data for system testing rather than using RRD in an operational setting.

If such documentation already exists, a pointer towards were I could find it would also be helpful.
