Options are to compress or to store externally.

Compression isn't so bad, but searching the journal is a bit of a pain with my current tools...all I can search on is a date or a diff across a date.

What would be nice is to be able to do some kind of semantic search, like when did such and such an artifact first appear. This would be very hard...in the case that I'm interested in, one of two matching enclosure devices was missing a device file.

Nix that...if it was a precise pattern it would actually be very easy...use an isomorphism and make identify of each device relevant.
