What's your idea?

Is there a way to differentiate parts of a backup to be specific to a machine? For example, my use case is namely Final Fantasy XIV. I play the game on multiple machines, 4 to be exact. Two run at 4K and play at a 150% in game UI scale, while the other two run at 1080p at 100% scaling. Not to mention I have effectively 3 different graphical configurations (Desktop at 4K, Laptop at 1080p, ROG Ally at 1080p). An all in approach just doesn't work in a situation like this. And the wide range of hardware capability is also an issue with general game settings, but I can get around that by just not backing up graphical settings where possible, or in the case of games that don't separate game settings from the saves, just changing the settings whenever I launch the game on a new system (which happens less than you'd think since I tend to play most games on only one device). I know that last one can't really be solved, just stating how I currently handle it.

The way I'd see this working is one of two ways:

  1. Just mark a file as per machine and it would backup based on a machine's host name. Ideally with an override for this name, since for instance, I use different names based on my OS (my desktop I dual boot between Windows with a name of "mali-dei" and Arch Linux with a name of "mali-arch").
  2. Let me mark a file as part of a "group," and the file would backup under that group name. This would allow me with FFXIV to sync my UI layouts between my 1080p devices, while keeping the graphical settings separate (since a 2070 mobile and a ROG Ally use VERY different graphical settings).
