Edit 2: It got reverted! (Didn't expect that actually, I expected more like an answer in the style of GNOME developers: "go f yourself you stupid end-user pleb, I know better".) From the changelog:
Hahah, I didn't bully you x) Yes thank you, I do love you again ❤️∽👐🏻∼❤️ Please don't remove customization features anymore; I noticed that even your profile's bio says "Owner and developer of Monkeytype - the most customisable typing website." Key word "customisable"! I've also always wanted the option to remove the "monkeytype" logo (the only possible distraction while typing), but it doesn't bother me that much. |

I've read the website from the changelog about the optimal line length for body text, E-commerce, readability/UX, yada-yada. This is however clearly not applicable to Monkeytype. Monkeytype is about typing (learning to touch-type, practicing touch-typing, and so on) and customization, it's not about E-commerce or optimization of readability on websites, product's landing pages, etc etc. Customization is the core feature of the whole project, in my opinion. Taking away valid and good features that once existed from users is bad. Width customization was a 100% valid and good feature and I was happy with it, since I could customize the width of the text that I was comfortable with. It has now been taken away.
It's very uncomfortable now for me to type the text due to the fixed width, since my eyes have to move much more: my sight has to "jump" from line to line, making vertical movements and additionally making frequent "returns" from the end of the line I finished typing to the start of the next line. Earlier I could just set the text to size 1, and increase the width of text body all the way to the max, so there would be long lines of text and my eyes would have to move much less thanks to this. My sight would just move horizontally for most of the time, following word after word, until it reaches the end of the very long line.
Again: the link in the changelog about the optimal text body length is not applicable at all to the Monkeytype project and its use-cases. Monkeytype if a completely different thing from what is stated in the link and the link's information is irrelevant/inapplicable to Monkeytype. Users had a choice to configure the width of the text however they want so that it would suit their needs, and this feature has been taken away from them. It also hurts accessibility: some users for some reasons would prefer longer width of the lines. If this is not going to be changed, I will be forced to fork the project for my needs or to use the older version which still had the feature of changing text's width. Don't take offense for anything I wrote, I love Monkeytype very much, I use it almost daily, and I donated to the project, but I find it absurd that such a change has been made, and the reasoning behind the change is baffling.
Edit: have a look at this issue. This is exactly what I was talking about when I said "It also hurts accessibility: some users for some reasons would prefer longer width of the lines."
