I'm not sure if you are doing this yet or not because I haven't looked at the code, but what about checking if the person viewing the comments has the Show Avatars in Posts option checked? If they have it disabled, don't show the avatar. I think this would be really helpful for mobile users since not everyone has unlimited data usage so this can cut some.

Interesting feature as well. I haven't thought about that. I will definitely do that :)

+1, because avatars are now really big . it is useless
