I am having some trouble in understanding how the use_checkpointing function in the UNet class (can be found in ./unet/unet_model.py) helps in creating the long connections in the actual UNet architecture. Can anybody please explain?

Understood! Posting for anybody who might be trying to understand the architecture from the code as well. The checkpointing function is not being used to create the long connections, that was my misunderstanding. The long connections are being created in the Up function in unet_parts.py. I am still trying to understand the function of use_checkpointing function. If anybody can please let me know in the comments, it shall be really helpful. I will be closing this now.
