I tried to run the software on freshly installed raspbian firmware (2020-02-13-raspbian-buster with Linux raspberrypi 4.19.97-v7+ #1294) and ran into some problems and got some feedback on the current state as far as I experienced it.

I started with a Raspberry PI 2 and on this device it works on headless mode only, after I tried to switch to a Raspberry Pi 3 it did not playback audio.
On the Pi 3 just using sudo ./pi_fm_adv works and stops noise on the used frequency but as soon as I try to play audio from a file or pipe the radio does not work anymore.
On both Raspberry Pi`s the shutdown, halt and reboot commands also break after starting PiFmAdv. The commands only shut down ssh, network and some other services but the display only freezes.

Does anybody have any advice how to make it work while using the GUI on the raspberry pi 2 or even better on the Pi 3? I would not mind downgrading to older firmware or another OS

That's ok for me on rpi 3b after change chmod on all .sh
sudo chmod +x /home/pi/PiFM/*.sh
