The ability to change the font size in the sidebar was requested via Stack Overflow http://stackoverflow.com/questions/35774918/vs-code-customize-sidebar.

Being visually impaired, I would also love this option.

+1. Can't use VS Code until this is in.

+1. Not only the fonts cant be set, there's no colour distinction between folders and files. Atom has a great extension to distinguish file types as well. Would be great to have this.

+1, this truly stop me switching to VS Code from Atom.

Note you can use "window.zoomLevel": -0.5, in config that will 'zoom out' entire vscode (including sidebar) and then to compensate it you can set "editor.fontSize" bigger.

I think its weird af but it works.

+1 sidebar font size and family is important

Yes, we need to be able to change font-size of sidebar and other parts of the IDE as currently fonts are too small. Sidebar & UI of Atom & sublime are better comparatively.

I am actually bothered more about fontfamily. I assume reason for using zoom is that there is certain hierarchy of sizes and fonts in the sidebar and you would need multiple settings to set everything by hand. Zoomlevel makes this possible by changing one value.

I think lot of people would like to change whole look of VSCode but i guess microsoft requires that you immediately recognize that its vscode - a microsoft product?

@krisak I agree. I'm somewhere between design and development and I just don't like 'feel' of VS Code interface. And while I find VSC is better than Sublime in many cases, that 'feel' of UI, sidebar, big icons etc. is the only reason I'm still with Sublime.

While I understand someone else might love it, I'd like to be able to customize it.

In details - I'd need customization of:

  • Sidebar font size, font family and colors of sidebar
  • Sidebar icons size and toggling of them, as they take quite a lot 'x' space (especially in split mode) while I dont use it most of the time.

@timpler It's a workaround I'm using too, but butchers font rendering :(

I hope there will be more options about sidebar customization including fontSize, fontFamily, backgroundColor, lineHeight...

Hope that we could change sidebar customization, including fontSize, fontColor, fontFamily, backgroundColor, lineHeight...
