Container Data Size Limits?

Are the limits on how many items that can be stored in a container? Or the overall size of data stored?

I'm using a SharedMap in a React 18 app and hitting exceptions when I try and access a container with a reasonable amount of data (the exact limit seems to change but is never under 1000).
