Describe the bug
Currently, there are problems with push notifications and messengers like Threema. Push basically works, but after a certain time the connection apparently breaks and messages only appear when the app is opened.
I am currently still using microG version 0.2.22.212658 with /e/ os. Is this a known issue or was it fixed in version 0.2.24.214816?

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Minimize the messenger app Threema.
  2. At first, the push notifications work.
  3. But after a while, push notifications stop arriving. Messages then appear only when you open the app.

Expected behavior
Push notifications should be displayed at all times.

System
Custom ROM: [/e/ os 0.21]

Additional context
Threema is basically registered for push. All MicroG self-tests are passed successfully. Nevertheless, the connection breaks down from time to time. Earlier I was shown that Threema has only been registered for 37 minutes (which should not be).

The changelog for 2.23 includes the following:

  • Cloud Messaging:
    • Improve reconnecting logic.

I'd hazard to guess the chances of your problem already being fixed are good.

I have a similar problem. Every app connected to microG push notifications stops sending notifications after some time. At some time the notifications start working again because I get all the microG notifications at the same time. For a specific app they also start working again after opening that app, but just for that one app. According to the time stamps of messenger apps there is a delay of 10 to 30 minutes. I was not able to figure out if there is a specific time pattern. It seems to happen more or less randomly. I don' have these issues with notifications from apps that don't use microG, they work fine all the time.

Interestingly this also affects the connection between WhatsApp and the WhatsApp web client on my computer. The connection gets lost after some time and comes back after some time simultaneously with the microG notifications or when I open WhatApp on my phone.

The problem just seems to appear when I'm connected to my home wifi. No problems when I'm connected to cellular network. So far I didn't experience similar problems when I'm connected to other wifis so I'm not sure if this is a microG or a router issue.

I have LineageOS for microG on my OnePlus 8T with the latest updates, thus microG 0.2.24.214816. I also had these issues with previous versions. My router is a Telekom Speedport Smart 4 with the latest firmware. I always have a strong and stable wifi connection in my small apartment, so I don't think it's a connection issue since non-microG notifications work fine.

Similar problem here (microG 0.2.24.214816). No connection possible with a OnePlus 8T in a guest wifi on my AVM Fritzbox 6660 cable router. Upon connection to the general wifi on the same router or the cellular network the connection is immediately established.

Don't know if I can change the guest wifi settings at all, but I'll try. Thanks!

This should be already fixed, please report if it isn't like this.
