This is likely not Maru related but posting anyways for guidance.

My 3A previously had ubports installed, I was having trouble flashing TWRP's which I had chalked up as conflict between ubports recovery and TWRP before flashing stock Android 9.0 with the Android Flash Tool.

Same issue persisted when attempting to boot TWRP images, most of which resulted in a hang on booting after sending the TWRP.img.

I spent all night with various TWRP images, I could only get 3.3.1 (I think that's the correct version) but I still couldn't get TWRP to flash to recovery without errors that required me to flash stock. Fed up with trying to get the recommended TWRP to flash to recovery let alone the Maru recommended TWRP to even boot I just went against my gut and flashed Maru and micro gapps (Maru appears to be Android 9.0 now, documentation calls for 8.0 gapps) without TWRP fully implemented into recovery.

Maru appeared to boot flawlessly, everything on the Maru side appears sound. I just haven't been able to get gapps installed even after multiple attempts.

I'm unsure if this is related to the TWRP version or something else. Recovery appears to take as Lineage's after Maru installation.

So my questions:

How do I install gapps with or without TWRP? Sargo really needs it without HDMI out capabilities.

Do I need to have TWRP flashed to recovery for Maru to get gapps or is there a better alternative?

Is there a Maru installation with gapps included maybe even the recovery? (similar to how it installed the lineage recovery)

I also patched the boot image with Magisk on a couple of the reflashes just for the fun of it. Magisk does not recognize the image is flashed.

Would Magisk work with Maru?

Right now it almost seems as if every zip or image flashed through TWRP after Maru is ignored. Unsure if this is the case or not, I'm willing to provide any documentation necessary.

Thank you for your help!

@ajvand6 It's recommended to flash official images firstly. It can erase all modifications of uports and TWRP. And then you can follow tutorial to flash TWRP and install maru-0.7 for sargo.

I did actually flash stock with the Android flash tool but the issue relating to twrp booting/installing seems to persist in the same manor as prior to the flash. I can do it again if you can guide me as to how to include logs in the event TWRP fails to boot/flash.

I flashed the earliest android 9 version, I'll try the latest 9 and confirm my results afterwards.

I believe I've figured it out at this point, I'll highlight what I did in case others run into the same issues as I. Most of which was due to the lack of documentation on the TWRP side.

I have a question, however.

Is TWRP just temporarily flashed as the recovery just to be replaced by the Lineage recovery?

@ajvand6 I have encountered similar problem. Looks like there is a option to install TWRP permanent on TWRP when you use it to install update/OTA images. Sorry, I'm not TWRP expert, and I can't provide more information.
