Hello! I'm super excited to try out MaruOS on my Pixel 3a. There's documentation on setting it up in the docs, and there's issues in the github referring to Sargo but I can't find the download anywhere to get it set up. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

@kadallah Thanks for interesting in MaruOS on sargo. I have did basic porting for sargo some months ago, and updated documentation for it with expectation that we can release maru-0.7 very soon. Sorry for late release, and we decide to release it at June/July. If you want to try it before release date, I can contact @pdsouza to help build it from build server and share link here.

That would be very cool! But no pressure, if it adds extra work on your end. I'm also going to be running this on my main phone, so while I can tolerate some bugs, it might be better to wait until the official release if things are unstable at the moment.

I am interested in this as well, do you have an update on when this will become available?

@kadallah @ajvand6 I would build it from my development machine next weekend and share download link here for testing purpose.

@utzcoz
Thank you, I'll be watching for it.

Do you have any of your past builds available? If not, no worries I'll wait until next weekend.

@ajvand6 @kadallah I have uploaded test ota image for sargo at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c6q0-tIj-njD3GRDMVfFIDSwp0AS2x79/view?usp=sharing. You can follow official documentation to install it for sargo. Please backing up your data before installing maru-0.7 for sargo. Feel free to file a new issue when you found problems, and I will add them to my to-do list and will try to fix them when I have time for MaruOS.

Hi utzcoz,

Thanks for this. Is the development community still active on the OS and before I try it are there any known issues with this image?

Kind regards
Percy

@PercyReason Yep. I think it is active, but not very-active now as we're trying to re-setup MaruOS 0.7 development work. We need time.

Hi utzcoz,

Thank you for your response.

It's proving a bit challenging to install MaruOS on to a Pixel 3a phone.

The first issue I had was with the locked bootloader but I was able to resolve that with the command "fastboot flash unlock" rather than usual "fastboot oem unlock".

Next, I tried to flash recovery using the command "fastboot flash recovery filepath.twrp.img" and got a "not allowed to flash (recovery) error message and also tried the command "fastboot boot filepath.twrp.img" but got an "error verifiying the received boot.img : Invalid Parameter error".

I haven't got any further than this but after some research I've come to the conclusion that because my Pixel 3a device is on Stock Android 12 and there are no compatible TWRP versions with Android 10(?) and above I would have to downgrade the phone to stock Android 9 before I would be able to flash TWRP. Is that also your same conclusion?

If so, the MaruOS install guide would need an extensive update to take account of the different adb commands, the (potential) downgrade to Android 9 and take account of some Pixel 3a devices that cannot even be OEM unlocked not that you would get that far without anyway...

Kind regards
Percy

@PercyReason You're right. If your Pixel device uses higher version of Android, you need to reinstall a lower version and flash TWRP to install MaruOS after it. What about sending a PR to update the doc in this repository? I am very happy to accept this PR.

Hi utzcoz,

Thanks for confirming.

I haven't tested it yet but I'm also thinking that rooting the device with Magisk may avoid the need to downgrade the device to Android 9,

I'd be happy to send a PR to update the doc in the repository once I've got Maru OS up and running on the Pixel 3a...

Kind regards
Percy
