Stabilize the API with a 1.0 release

Today, this repo's README has a terrifying warning at the top:

!!! THIS PROJECT IS A WORK-IN-PROGRESS | THE API SHOULD BE CONSIDERED UNSTABLE !!!

What would it take to stabilize the API so it can be more confidently used? What is currently missing for releasing v1?

I think protoc-gen-star is an important part of the Protobuf ecosystem. It has been in this WIP mode for two years, and has seen a fair amount of use. How can the community help get it to v1?

I would like clarification on this too.

I have 2 different plugins I need to write, and I would love to use protoc-gen-star as a base, but That note is in the godoc and is giving me second thoughts.

To me it the project seems stable, so I'm probably going to use it, but we should probably delete the WIP note from the godoc if this is stable enough to not break in drastic ways.
