Hey Dev,
I like the functionality of your extension but I don't want it to be my new tab page simply because your extension doesn't provide me the functionality I want from a new tab page. I use a custom tab page so I simply don't want to replace it.
So instead of asking users to use your extension tab page replace it with lightbulb or dashboard kinda feature or add an option so users can choose what they want.
Give users the choice, the power!! (This will greatly increase the extension userbase as well.)
How to implement it: Whenever a user clicks on the extension icon it dims the background & let the user browse RSS on the same page.
so by implementing this feature, users will have the option to replace their current new tab page or use the new lightbulb feature without any need of replacing the new tab page so by this way they can use your extension RSS feature without any loss.

This is definitely an interesting idea. I actually hear this a lot so it is a feature that I am looking into. I want to get RSS feeds working first, along with a few more news outlets I forgot to add, but after that, I will work on implementing this. I'll need to figure out the following:
How to conditionally take over the new tab page
How to make a full page pop-up in the most efficient manner
Does Chrome/Firefox support iframing the extension page?
