Installation / Delphi XE2 and Delphi 11.3 #73
Comments

i have modified the project files, can you update your sourcefiles from current commit please. |
Dear Sven,
Firstly – thank you so much for the quick response – greatly appreciated.
I checked my system and copied the path (using Windows Explorer, Copy as Text):
C:\Users\Public\Documents\RAD Studio\9.0\Bpl
I am using Windows 11 Pro (64-bit).
I downloaded the updated files and tried installing (given that the former version hadn’t installed) and still seeing the same error message:
What I did notice is that under the 9.0 folder your system created a new folder and didn’t place the dclDragDropXe2.bpl file in the BPL folder.
My XE2 system is completely standard.
So the question still remains: “What am I doing wrong?”.
Kind regards,
Alistair

The Delphi XE2 paths may not match the project. Can you check which path applies to XE2? Look under
c:\Users\Public\Documents\Rad Studio to see which number corresponds to XE2. It doesn't seem to be 9.0

The message "can't load package" means, that the path, where the bpl file is, is not in PATH environment variable. If you do this, then it should work. |
Hi Sven,
I have tried everything as per your suggestions – however, I still can’t manage to get the DragDrop VCL package installed.
My XE2 installation (I also have Delphi 11.3, but don’t use this much) is standard – nothing fancy at all and no changes to locations.
Installation folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Embarcadero\RAD Studio\9.0\bin
BPL folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\RAD Studio\9.0\Bpl
I opened the XE2 package in the IDE. Use CTRL-ALT-F1 to open the Project Manager (dclDragDropXE2.proj) and right click on the dclDragDropXE2.bpl line, then select COMPILE. Target platform is 32-bit Windows.
This produces no errors and a new folder is created:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\RAD Studio\9.0\The-Drag-and-Drop-Component-Suite-for-Delphi
In the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\RAD Studio\9.0\Bpl a new file is also created: dclDragDropDXE2.bpl
The next stage in the installation script is “Install”, which I do by right-clicking the project title line in the Project Manager and selecting INSTALL.
The same procedure as I have done for other component packages.
This FAILS and gives me this error message:
I also added (in my Windows environment the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\RAD Studio\9.0\Bpl to the PATH variable, but this hasn’t resolved the problem either.
Is there a Delphi XE2 setting I am overlooking?
I really want to try working with this component package and feel frustrated I can’ even get the installation finished.
Kind regards,
Alistair

no, not the dclDragDropDXE2.bpl i mean, is there a DragDropDXE2.bpl you need to compile the DragDropDXE2.dpr also |
Have an issue installing the package. Latest version download from GitHub January 2024.
With Delphi XE2:
Open the package - this goes OK
Open Project Viewer - this goes OK
Hit (right click) on COMPILE - this goes OK
Hit (right click) on INSTALL and I get and error that it can't find the file:
Error message:
Can't load package: C:\Users\Public\Documents\RAD Studio\9.0\bpl\dclDragDropDXE2.bpl
The specified module could not be found.
What am I doing wrong here please?
I see a similar issue with Delphi 11.3 - but in the first instance I want to use XE2 (yes, I know it's very old....so am I).
Thanks.
