Seems that the new serial impl is incompatible with existing codal-mbed/codal-mbedos repos

Why does this need fixing? Isn't it version locked?

Eventually we need the changes to support the GC fixes.

I know it sounds like i'm shirking work, but this seems like a low priority thing. Lock it to a version where the serial layer is compatible i.e. a few commits ago – I think the GC fixes were merged before I merged the serial.
