Intermittent failures fetching kubeconfig on AWS

In our build pipelines we are seeing Unable to write kubeconfig: Timedout writing kubeconfig on roughly 3/4 builds recently when using the default aws profile. The pipeline is using commit a9d906e. Our build history goes back to the 10th of October, but it may have preceded that. I was also able to replicate this locally with the latest master branch 4c7f362.
