Backgroud

As an optional configuration, we have been working on to enable Cilium that is one of the most advanced and empowered by eBPF.
Now we have confirmed and verified that we can actually enable Cilium CNI with KubeEdge, precisely on the edgenode where edgecore runs.

There are several PRs are solved to enable this, but all related PRs have been merged into main and v1.16.x release branch.
To expand KubeEdge presence and users with this configurable option that we have, we need to add this procedure into the official documentation where https://kubeedge.io/docs/.

What would you like to be added/modified

Where to add

What to describe and add

  • Set up procedure how to enable Cilium Container Network Interface, this should be tagged with Community Support
  • (I guess, we should describe a bit about wireguard configuration to connect the data-plane between cloud and edge. otherwise, user expects data-plane can be bridged via Cilium by default.)

Related PRs / Issues

#4844

Consideration

  • It is likely that procedure could be out of date, if that process is not integrated into the CI/CD, at least E2E test with using it. e.g) KubeEdge occasionally takes Kubernetes code to catch up with Kubernetes upstream version. There is possibility that this upstream change would be able to break this procedure.
