If there is not en_US.UTF-8 on my box, I see:
> LC_CTYPE locale must be of UTF-8 type, or you need en_US.UTF-8 availabe
Probably "available" should be (but I'm not native English speaker, so I'm not 
sure).

What version of the product are you using (`logkeys --help`)?
0.1.1b-svn

On what operating system?
Debian GNU/Linux jessie
