jupyterlab-git asks Name + email for first commit of every repo

Hey,

when I clone to a repository (in my case, the git repos reside on a network disk), make changes and commit, the UI prompts for my Username + Email for every repo. How do I permanently set those settings? git config --global doesn't seem to be doing much.
