IRkernel hangs randomly when installed

Hello!

I recently installed this extension, and had to subsequently uninstall it as R notebooks would randomly hang in the middle or at the end of their session, requiring a kernel kill and restart in order to keep using them. This was even with the variable explorer closed.

Separately, running a simple

jupyter labextension disable @lckr/jupyterlab-variableInspector

didn't work to actually disable the inspector, I had to do a full uninstall.

If there is some way I can help debug this, let me know.

I have observed similar behaviour. It was enough to "Interrupt the kernel" and continue evaluating cells ... till it happens again...

This behaviour occurs after creating some bigger data structures (like multiple plots or reading a bigger table).

Removing the extension "solved the problem".
