If you click on the "notebook tour' button in the help menu without any notebook open, the tour doesn't start and there is no message.

We could:

  • display a message to inform the user that, he need to open a notebook before
  • programmatically create a notebook

Hey @djangoliv

This was intended to not overwhelm new users with multiple tour notifications at the startup.

A way forward could be to propose at the end of the welcome tour to prompt to open a notebook with the notebook tour.

Another possibility (requiring much work) could be to create a new launcher going more in the direction of a welcome page:

Hello @fcollonval .

IMHO, I think that notifications are not the good way to go.

I prefer the button in the help menu and a launcher "Tour" with a widget like the screenshot in #4 . The welcome page is, in my opinion, a little too much.

In any case, I think that opening a notebook at the start of the notebook-tour is a good thing.
