We're coming up on the end of the second year of the CSL grant, but we got a late start and so have about a year of funding remaining. We should come up with a plan for how to course-correct given what we've learned in year 1.

Here's a slide deck that tries to describe the current state of things, and we should use it to decide what we want to do next:

Updates

I've had a few conversations with various folks about this, and here are some general updates to share with you all:

  • Sarah will not continue as the Community Strategic Lead for the second year of funds in this grant.
  • She'll spend August as her last year in this role, with the goal of reflecting and synthesizing learning from the experience over the past year.
  • We are trying to brainstorm with the Turing Way team what to do with the remaining grant funds. This includes the potential of just returning them and not asking for an extension.
  • If any team members are interested in brainstorming this, please reach out.

I'll be off for the next 3-4 weeks as I'm moving back to California, and will plan to meeting with some folks at the Turing Way about this when I return, but I invite others to brainstorm and come up with ideas in my absence.

I had a quick meeting with Malvika, Arielle, and Kirstie from The Turing Way today. Our goal was to identify a path forward for the second year of this grant and a use of the funds that could help us accomplish the goals of the grant.

We decided to spend the next month putting together a proposal for a scope of work and action plan. Our plan will be to request an extension that covers the time needed to carry out this new plan (once we have it).

I've created a folder to start coordinating that work for the team here. We'll work there and are happy for other JupyterHub team members to participate if you're interested in doing so! Let me know if you've got any questions and I'll keep updated here when we have a proposal in mind.
