Before I go digging into the details of this, do you think it would be technically possible to move the script element and the default_order_field div inside the main inline-group div?
I ask because we have code that restructures the page and to do so it assumes it can pick up a whole inline as a single div and the template changes here turn an inline into two divs and a script.

to the bottom, along with what ever other changes that necessitates, I know from experience that moving the the inline div breaks the ordering, which suggests that there's some javascript somewhere that knows these tags are next to each other
