RAGE1 started using the Classic version of Z88DK standard library. Very early it was migrated to SDCC+NEWLIB, but now it has been determined by the Z88DK masters that Classic is the way of the future, and almost all new functionality in newlib has been integrated back into Classic, see: https://z88dk.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=11638
Besides that, the automatic banking system in Z88DK is only available in Classic (both SCCZ80 and SDCC), so migrating back to Classic would allow also to replace the custom banking code in RAGE1 with the regular one.
