I thought I would share my experience with the update to 1.5 from 1.3 on my debian 11 machine (bare metal install).
a) stop services
b) chanced name of folder /opt/paperless-ng to /opt/paperless-ng-old
c) uncompressed the 1.5 archive in the /opt folder
d) copied over paperless.conf, data folder and media folder from /opt/paperless-ng-old to the new /opt/paperless-ng
e) sudo apt install python3 python3-pip python3-dev imagemagick fonts-liberation optipng gnupg libpq-dev libmagic-dev mime-support
-> installed nothing because had already done apt dist-upgrade
f) sudo apt install unpaper ghostscript icc-profiles-free qpdf liblept5 libxml2 pngquant zlib1g tesseract-ocr -> installed nothing because had already done apt dist-upgrade
g) sudo -Hu paperless pip3 install --upgrade pip (I way a normal, unprivileged user here using sudo)
h) sudo -Hu paperless pip3 install -r requirements.txt (I way a normal, unprivileged user here using sudo)
i) sudo -Hu paperless python3 manage.py migrate (I way a normal, unprivileged user here using sudo)
j) copied the scripts from /opt/paperless-ng to /etc/systemd/system in case they changed and made sure the working directory was started.
Any thoughts on which step may have gone wrong above?
